2020 Year in Review

We think February is a great time for reflection. In January, we like to hit the ground running and start the new year strong. Now – as we settle into the midway point of Quarter 1, there is value in reviewing the past year, evaluating where we are, and establishing goals that will help our Firm, and our clients, thrive in 2021.

It’s been said before, but we’ll say it again – 2020 was a remarkably difficult year. The pandemic has changed the DNA of how we interact, conduct business, and live our day-to-day lives. As we reflect back on 2020, we’d like to take a moment to recognize our resilient GJ team, and celebrate some of the victories:

  • Closing hundreds of transactions in 43 states across the nation, we did over three billion dollars in transactional volume in 2020, including real estate developments, financings, acquisitions, sales, joint ventures, leases, and telecom projects. Not bad for a pandemic!
  • We helped our clients deal with unprecedented issues across many industries, with PPP loans, lease negotiations, loan modifications, and a wide range of other pandemic-related hurdles. We are proud to have been able to provide counsel to our clients who were navigating unusual and difficult situations.
  • We adjusted to a new normal, and found the positives wherever we could, as we transitioned to new remote workspaces as the stay-at-home orders hit.
  • We added three new partners to our practice. Our firm is now even stronger, with the addition of three seasoned, and well-respected attorneys – Hilary Gould, Janet Cory, and Mark Albert. They are already invaluable team members, despite the fact that we haven’t been able to gather as a full staff to welcome them yet. We also elevated two of our homegrown associates to partner in 2020. So, congratulations to James Allen and Angie Nizio as well.

As we look forward to a world in recovery, we are full of hope. We saw people come together in 2020, within our Firm, within our city, and within our world. We are confident that this revitalized sense of unity will help our communities grow even more resilient.

Partner David Lapins said: “We are very proud of our achievements, our valued clients, and our remarkable team members. We can’t wait to shake hands with our clients, colleagues, and friends again soon. We’re looking forward to celebrating a closing over dinner, or to catching a baseball game on a beautiful day. We’re sure those days are coming soon.”
